American Cancer Society

Delta Nu Chapter Service Partner 2021

The American Cancer Society (ACS) is a national voluntary health organization dedicated to eliminating cancer. The ACS is one of the oldest and largest volunteer health organizations.

The organization does several activities such as providing grants to researchers, running public health advertisement and organizes events such as Relay for Life and the Great American Smokeout. At Relay For Life events teams camp out overnight and take turns walking or running around a track or path to raise funds for the fight against cancer. There is also the American Cancer Society Hope Lodge Network. This network provides free, home-like accommodations for cancer patients who have to travel for treatment. There are more than 30 Hope Lodges in the US.

  • Volunteer at a Hope Lodge by making meals, providing entertainment, planning activities, and improving the facility and grounds.

  • Create a Relay For Life Team

  • Join the Relay for Life Leadership Team! Help plan and promote the event.

  • This hands on team does everything from recruiting and motivating teams and sponsors to planning day-of-event ceremonies.

  • Be a cheerleader during an endurance events to help motivate participants during the walk/run

  • Volunteer at an American Cancer Society Resource Center. These centers are located in local community hospitals. Help survivors’ access information, community resources, and American Cancer Society programs via ACS databases and/or brochures, etc.

  • Use your beauty know-how to help cancer patients manage the appearance-related side effects of treatment

  • Daffodils are a universal symbol of hope and life, and they’re at the center of the American Cancer Society’s Daffodil Days Hope By The Bunch campaign powered by 1800FLOWERS.COM. The campaign will deliver thousands of yellow flowers across the country in March to raise awareness and funds for the fight against cancer. The Daffodil Days Hope By The Bunch campaign coincides with the arrival of spring and colorectal cancer awareness month.
